It probably comes from my early childhood when I sat through long sermons. A bit on the ADD side, I would find different ways to keep myself engaged so my mom wouldn't fuss at me for squirming or talking. Sometimes I would stare up at the rafters of the sanctuary and imagine how someone would get from one side of the room to the other across the ceiling.
I know, it was odd, but I wasn't quite old enough to really understand what the preacher was saying and, as I said, the sermons were LOOOONNNNGGGG!
So when I got a shot of this pavilion, it really inspired some thoughts along the same lines. The picture shows just the recessed center of the of the room, and the window was about the level of a second story. Under it was a closed bin - at an incline, probably so no one could stand on the lid. On either side were closed concession stands - or at least they looked like that with pull-down doors over cut out windows about chest high.
This setting proved a little more difficult than my first one - see Setting Challenge #1 post - but I came up with a couple of different scenarios.
- In my first idea, the main characters are animals - a bat, a couple of squirrels, some mice and a rabbit. The main story plot is how they win their home back from a pair of coyotes that move in. Sort of a "Home Alone" does "Bambi."
- My second idea has this pavilion full of high school students at a Senior Picnic. I imagine the party would get pretty wild, maybe even a fight breaking out, before the park closes and the kids are all sent home. I can also imagine the clean up crew that night finding the body of one of those students stuffed into the bin that is just below that window. Someone call Nancy Drew!
